Identifying with Asian-ness: Interracial Adoption, Identity & Racism

Lis Malone debuts her new full season of "Breaking Dishes" with the deeply personal subject of finding your identity as an interracial adoptee, and addressing the anti-Asian racismO in America. Joined by fellow Southoo Korean adoptee and journalist, Théoden Janes (Pop-Culture Writer for The Charlotte Observer, who recently penned an Op-Ed in which he addressed his own deep-rooted feelings about being Asian-American during a time of anti-Asian attacks and rhetoric) the two share personal experiences and perspectives of what it's like to exist in two different worlds simultaneously when it comes to race, while also feeling like they're not truly a part of either.
Lis recounts high profile instances of overt racism which includes music, television, social media, sports. retail and politics to demonstrate the pervasiveness of racism and where some of these offenders lay blame.

Thought Provoking

What a wonderfully done program!!

In a time when most podcast’s are unfulfilling and less than impressive, Lis delivers a quality experience. With the stylistic approach of master story teller; her diction, and vocal cadence relaxes the listener into a very reflective state.

Delivered with a calm demeanor, Lis is disarming and allows one to be present in the moment….a reality that amplifies the meaningfulness, receptivity and impact of her message.

Easy and inspiring

I enjoy Breaking Dishes for two reasons: 1) Lis Malone’s delivery is smooth and calm and so easy to listen to; there’s a meditative quality to the sonic experience. And 2) the message is inspiring and fresh.

More than an option ,

Refreshing!

I tend to focus on the negative part of change. I tend to compare myself and my situation(s) to others and how much “better” they are doing than I am. Lis gave me a new perspective on making the best of the opportunities and a new chance to make a new beginning. I appreciate her transparency and candidness.
